Course Description

Explore human history through the beverages that defined it. Based on Tom Standage’s work, this course examines how six drinks—beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola—acted as catalysts for social and political change. From the grain-fed origins of agriculture to the caffeine-fueled Age of Reason and the rise of globalization, you will discover how "liquid technologies" built empires and sparked revolutions. Join us for a fascinating journey through time, one glass at a time.
